The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
