The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:
- Each team includes only eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
