LA Experiences Historic Heat Just Days After Major Winter Storm.
Following a week of significant rainfall that led to inundation across areas in the city, the City of Angels is now seeing abnormally high conditions for this time of year.
Record-Shattering Temperatures
On Friday midday, the mercury climbed to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, according to weather officials. This easily surpasses the old record for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was set in the previous year.
"Very warm conditions" were labeled on official maps for the region.
Safety Alerts
Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's heat posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their recommendations suggested:
- Staying hydrated.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Never leaving children or pets unattended in a car.
A Sharp Reversal
This sudden spike in heat follows closely after a intense winter storm that struck the region recently. That storm unleashed high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to higher elevations, leading to flash flood warnings for many residents.

Weekend Outlook
Forecasters predict a cooldown is expected. Readings were expected to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in downtown LA by late Friday.
Additional areas that hit 90°F included Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Additionally, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were projected to experience the upper eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, downtown Los Angeles can expect temperatures in the 80s, with mid-70s temperatures expected for the start of March.
