Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in response for a significant and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
