A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
